What Is A Scandinavian Style

Known for their simplicity, usefulness, and beauty, Scandinavian homes have a pure, understated style that focuses on warm functionality, clean lines, flawless craftsmanship, and understated elegance. How do you make your home Scandinavian? Let’s look closely at the characteristic features.

Color palettes

Neutral colors are the foundation as natural light can be rare in Nordic homes. Recently, however, color has been used as an accent, albeit still in earth tones – dark blues, greens, grays, and browns. The nature-inspired shades can help create a cocoon-like space. So check out beige, white, light green and blue that don’t contrast your Scandi interior much but make it deeper and more interesting. It could just be an accent wall, piece of furniture, or some textiles that can be easily changed.

Include wood siding on walls and even ceilings to add texture and warmth. Use a gray oil to remove the yellow from woods like pine or oak. Scandinavian design creates warmth through textiles like sheepskin, wool, and mohair, which are a necessity in cold climates, and keeps the aesthetics low but adds some visual interest.

Scandinavian design is not about clutter at all, but about order and an airy feeling that cannot be achieved with a lot of accessories and storage boxes.

Since the Scandinavian winters are very harsh, most apartments and houses have an original fire in the living room. Unlike British fireplaces, which are usually the focal point of a large room, they are often very simple pillars (many 19th century originals are beautifully tiled) that sit in the corner of the room. In this way, they provide comfort and warmth without becoming the focus.

Add an exterior / interior

Scandinavians generally love connecting with nature, so even in the smallest of apartments you can find a balcony or terrace. These are usually decked out and used for outdoor grilling and entertaining on the late bright nights of summer. Decorate your outdoor space in Scandi style to expand the outside space and enjoy nature and landscapes.
