Buck & simple designed Torquay House is the ultimate place to stay for a surf vacation in Torquay, Australia. The vacation home focuses on surfing and outdoor activities and can accommodate up to 20 people.
The structure plays with the geometric nature of the joining of three differently sized structures. A large house, small house, and entertainment deck enclose a central courtyard to create an all-inclusive vibe. The open layout prioritizes outdoor activities that should take place in the striking inner courtyard. This inward-reflective arrangement also creates a sense of privacy as the house is part of a larger neighborhood.
The living areas have sturdy raw concrete block walls that can be seen everywhere from the kitchen to the bathroom, a burnished concrete floor, and details made from natural wood and copper. An abundance of windows and doors offers the opportunity to connect with nature and all outdoor activities in the courtyard. The more private areas are accompanied by a quieter palette of materials, encouraging guests to slow down and relax after a day at the beach. Outside, a wooden umbrella frames a private courtyard with a surf utility area with an outdoor shower and surfboard quiver. The inner courtyard is a cooking-dining area under one roof with lights and fans, which makes it pleasant to stay here both at night and during the day.
